BMI Wants More Books in the Hands of Readers

BMI is proud to support the efforts of IBPA and others with the We Are Stronger Than Censorship program. We Are Stronger Than Censorship aims to empower both readers and the publishing industry at large with a response to the surge in book banning that is positive, proactive, grassroots, and community-based.

The chilling effect of book bans (where librarians and teachers have to worry about bringing in certain titles even when they know the books would help their students/patrons) has disproportionately impacted independent presses, many of whom are mission-driven and focus on publishing voices from the very communities who are targeted by the current political wave of book banning. The drop in sales to schools and libraries for many of these publishers has been significant, and this program aims to help those publishers, their authors, and most of all readers who will gain restored access to quality printed books.

Therefore, BMI is asking its members to donate to the We Are Stronger Than Censorship program and reach a goal of $16,000 in donations.

How Your Donation Helps:
  • $160 buys 20 books to respond to ten local book challenges.
  • $1,600 can help us reach even more readers by funding 200 books for donation to offset 100 book challenges.

Upon reaching that goal, BMI will match that $16,000, meaning 4,000 printed books will be donated directly to readers for whom they will mean so much.
